My Bio
Matt Ready was born in Washington DC and raised in Bethesda, Maryland. He attended Walter Johnson High School. He then attended the University of Maryland, College Park and the University of Bristol, Bristol England. He graduated from college Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa, and Phi Kappa Phi with a degree in Philosophy with a minor in Ideology and Utopia studies.
After graduating college in 1995, Matt moved across the country to Port Townsend, Washington, an eclectic community on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State. Although intent on living a simple life as an artist and philosopher, Matt found his way into a genuine career path. He became a freelance web developer, computer support specialist, and in 1998 became part of the local public hospital, Jefferson Healthcare, Information Technology department.
Matt worked in the IT department until 2007 when he joined the Jefferson Healthcare Lean Resource office and was trained to become a Lean Fellow based on the “Toyota Way” . From 2007-2013 Matt lead over 30 improvement workshops and facilitated 50 focused improvement projects with at least one project in virtually every area of the Jefferson Healthcare system.

Matt ran against the then president of the board, a retired MD, on a platform dedicated to doing more to make healthcare more affordable and accessible to all people, including relentless advocacy for single payer healthcare. Matt won that election in November 2013 by 500 votes.
After winning the election, Matt resigned his employed position from Jefferson Healthcare and in January 2014 assumed political office. While in office Matt has challenged the board to provide stronger leadership and guidance to the district, work more aggressively as a unit to advocate for single payer healthcare, and to better focus the district mission on improving the health of the community.

The Global Consensus Project – http://globalconsensusproject.org, an effort to build a platform that facilitates millions of people to work together to make wise decisions using egalitarian facilitation methods.
Activist Corner/ The Mindful Activist – http://activistcorner.com, a podcast focused on interviews with front line activists and thoughtful people working to make the world a better place for everyone. This podcast invites regular audience participation through regular Skype and other live video connections in addition to simultaneous use of the latest Global Consensus Platform during and between shows.
The Book – http://mattready.net, a still untitled book Matt wrote which chonicles much of his journey and the major themes that have helped guide that journey: mindfulness and activism. To receive a prepublication draft of the book and help Matt finish the darn thing, please send Matt a nagging message.
Art – http://mattready.net. Matt continues to have a special place in his heart for art and expects when he finally withdraws fully from public life, he will live as that philosopher, artist, hermit he always intended to be when he graduated the University of Maryland so many years ago.
